Abstract

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a group of metabolic disorders and clinical stage characterized by the presence decreased HDL cholesterol, increased triglycerides, high blood sugar, insulin resistance, obesity, and hypertension. If we measure both apo B and apo A-I and express them as a ratio, we get a strong cardiovascular risk markers.

This cross sectional study was conducted in 46 people with metS and obese people as the control group from October 2012 to April 2013, using the criteria of  IDF  2005.

The mean levels of apoB/apoA1 ratio in MetS group significantly higher compared to the obesity group(0.85 ± 0.2), (0.67 ± 0.16), respectively (p = 0.02). HDL have positive correlation with apoA1 (r = 0.457; P = 0.001), but have negative correlation with apoB (r =-456; P = 0.001) and apoB/apoA1 ratio (r =-0.576; P = 0.001). TG have positive correlation with Apo B (r = 0.441;P = 0.001) and with apoB/apoA1 ratio (r = 0.359; P = 0.014).

There was significant differences between the ratio of apoB/apoA-I ratio between metS group compared with obesity group. There is correlation between TG and HDL levels with the apoB/apoA-I ratio.

Abstract

C-Reactive Protein is an acute phase protein and can be  found in a small amount in normal condition. CRP level will increase in some condition like inflammation, trauma, etc. Dyspepsia is a collection of symptoms in the upper gastrointestinal tract, divided into functional andorganic dyspepsia. Recent study found that two types of dyspepsia can be caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. Increased CRP as an inflammatory process or infection. To compare CRP level between group HP (+) and HP (-).

This study is analytically observation with cross sectional approach conducted in Clinical Pathology  Department at H. Adam Malik Central Hospital in Medan started from July to September 2013. 20 participants include in this research was taken from group HP (+) dyspepsia and 22 participants from group HP(-) dyspepsia as control.

The average age in group HP (+)  was 47,00 (SD 10,4) with 8 women and  12 are men. The mean hs-CRP level in group HP (+) was 3,25 (SD 3,59) mg/L, while in control group 0,99 (SD 1,68) mg/L  and this difference  statistically significant (p 0,016).

hs-CRP level significantly different between group HP (+) and group HP (-), and we found the hs-CRP level is higher in group HP (+).

Abstract

Tuberculosa spondylitis (Pott’s disease) is a cause of paraplegia after trauma and the most commonly strikes people with low sosioeconomic.

Tuberculosa spondylitis is 50 % of all tuberculosis of bones and joints. The most common sites are the lower thoracic and  lumbar vertebrae. The disease has the potential to cause permanent neurological deficits and severe deformity.

Infection begins from the central portion of epifisial area of the vertebral body causing osteoporosis and softening corpus. Further damage to the cortex epifise, intravertebral discs and surrounding vertebrae. Damage to the front of this corpus will cause kyposis known as gibbus.

Tuberculosa spondylitis can strike young and old with ratio women and men is 1.5 :2.1. Medical treatment or a combination medical treatment and surgery can overcome this disease in the most patients
